About Benefits Made Simple

Benefits Made Simple is run by Josh Hall, a benefits professional in Magnolia, Texas.

Employee benefits can feel like a foreign language. Deductibles, HSAs, FSAs, vesting schedules, and a stack of legal notices show up once a year, usually with a short deadline. This site offers free, plain-language education so employees can make confident choices, and so employers and HR teams can explain their benefits clearly.

How the guides are written

  • Sources we actually opened. Facts and figures come from official and reputable sources, such as the IRS, the U.S. Department of Labor, HealthCare.gov, CMS, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and KFF. Each guide lists its sources with full links.
  • Every number has a year. Benefit limits change often, so each figure says which year it applies to. Figures that could not be checked against a source are left out.
  • Made-up examples are labeled. Examples help explain ideas, and they are always marked as made up. They are not real prices or data.
  • Checked regularly. Each guide shows a "Last checked" date. The current guides were last checked in Nov 2026.

What this site is not

This site is for general education only. It is not professional, legal, tax, or financial advice. Your own plan documents, such as your Summary of Benefits and Coverage and Summary Plan Description, are the final word on how your benefits work. Rules can vary by employer size and by state, and they change over time.

Before you make a decision about your situation, check your plan documents and talk with a qualified professional, such as your HR team, a benefits attorney, a tax adviser, or a licensed financial professional.
